The master of giallo is returning to the shadows During this year’s Marché du Film in Cannes, legendary Italian horror filmmaker Dario Argento revealed an ambitious new international thriller trilogy at the Fantastic Pavilion, marking a major new chapter for one of genre cinema’s most influential voices. Best known for redefining psychological horror and stylised murder mysteries through classics like Suspiria, Deep Red, and Tenebrae, Argento is once again stepping into the world of obsession, paranoia, and nightmare imagery.

The trilogy is being produced by Mattia’s Film under producer Giovanni Di Gianfrancesco, with international sales handled by Neo Art and executive Antonia Nava. Shot across multiple European locations in Italian, English, and Spanish, the three interconnected thrillers promise a return to the dark, atmospheric storytelling that made Argento a defining figure in horror cinema.

The presentation included exclusive footage and first-look images from Flesh of My Flesh (Carne della mia Carne), directed by Gabriele Altobelli. Currently in post-production, the film centers on the disappearance of a teenage girl and the horrifying secrets hidden within an ordinary neighborhood.

The official synopsis teases:

Early footage reportedly showcased the kind of surreal tension, unsettling imagery, and slow-burning dread long associated with classic Italian horror cinema. Argento himself also appeared via a special video message, discussing the trilogy and his continued passion for genre filmmaking.

The final chapter revolves around three women trapped within a terrifying nightmare linked to a faceless figure no one can remember. The premise hints at dream logic, fractured identity, and surreal horror Imagery reminiscent of Argento’s most iconic work.
