News Bites! A Fetus Arrival, Survive The Weight and The Treehouse of Terror

Fans of outrageous horror comedies have something suitably unhinged to look forward to this summer as The Fetus arrives on UK digital platforms on 6th July 2026 courtesy of Miracle Media. Written and directed by Joe Lam in his feature debut, the film stars Lauren LaVera (Terrifier 2, Terrifier 3) alongside horror icon Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses) in a gore-soaked black comedy that blends the paranoia of Rosemary’s Baby with the twisted humour of Prevenge.

LaVera plays Alessa, whose seemingly impossible pregnancy soon becomes a waking nightmare when she and her boyfriend Chris discover the unborn child is a bloodthirsty satanic entity. Forced to seek help from her estranged father Maddox (Moseley), the pair find themselves battling a horrifying evil in what promises to be a gleefully over-the-top mix of practical gore, outrageous comedy and demonic carnage. If you’re a fan of splatter-filled indie horror with a wicked sense of humour, The Fetus looks like one to keep an eye on this July.

Vertical has unveiled the first trailer for The Weight, a gritty survival thriller that has already emerged as one of the standout films of 2026 following acclaimed premieres at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals. Set in the rugged Oregon backwoods during the Great Depression, the film stars Ethan Hawke as Samuel Murphy, a man torn from his young daughter and imprisoned in a brutal labour camp. Offered a chance at freedom by a ruthless warden, played by Russell Crowe, Samuel agrees to join a dangerous mission to smuggle a fortune in gold through unforgiving wilderness with a crew of hardened prisoners.

Directed by Padraic McKinley in his feature debut, The Weight has drawn comparisons to William Friedkin’s classic Sorcerer, delivering nerve-shredding tension, spectacular cinematography from Matteo Cocco, and a relentless survival story packed with suspense. Alongside Hawke and Crowe, the cast includes Julia Jones, Austin Amelio, Avi Nash, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Sam Hazeldine and Avy Berry. If the trailer is anything to go by, The Weight looks set to be one of the must-see action thrillers of the year when it arrives in cinemas this September.

The woods are calling once again, but this time the hunter may become the hunted. Black Mandala has revealed The Treehouse, a chilling new Spanish horror film from director Luis Calderón that puts a fresh twist on the classic “cabin in the woods” setup. Starring Goya Award nominee Sandra Escacena alongside Claudio Portalo, Kandido Uranga, Apolonia La Piedra and Spanish music star Mala Rodríguez, the film promises a tense blend of supernatural mystery, survival horror and revenge.

The story follows Ale and her boyfriend Jesús as a romantic getaway in a secluded treehouse, suspended more than 60 feet above the Zeanuri forest, descends into a nightmare when Jesús mysteriously plunges to his death. One year later, convinced that something sinister lurking in the woods was responsible, Ale returns to the scene with one goal: to expose the predator hiding in the forest and destroy it. Swapping screams for strategy, The Treehouse looks set to deliver an atmospheric and suspenseful take on the creature-feature formula.
