The Last Temptation of Becky: Becky Is Back
Becky is back, she’s working for the CIA, and this time she’s taking on the Fourth Reich! The increasingly bonkers Becky franchise is getting ready for its third outing with The Last Temptation of Becky, and the first two teasers have just arrived, promising another gloriously violent slice of revenge-fueled action.
But there’s an extra reason for us to be excited about this one, our very own pal from The Projector Room Podcast, Allan Gildea, is in the movie. Regular Projector Room listeners will know from his appearances alongside Ted and I, has made the leap into the latest chapter of the Becky saga. And, without giving anything away, he has landed himself a particularly interesting role in the film.
Even more intriguingly, Allan doesn’t appear in either of the two shiny new teaser trailers released this week. So what exactly is he up to? Well… we’re going to let the movie answer that one.
And considering the wonderfully unhinged nature of the Becky films, we’re rather hoping Allan gets to have some fun too!
The Last Temptation of Becky finds Lulu Wilson’s Becky Hooper all grown up and considerably more professional. She’s now working as a CIA field agent, and her latest assignment takes her undercover to Poland. Targetting a family of innkeepers operating a tourist venture at The Wolf’s Lair, the notorious former WWII headquarters and bunker complex associated with one Adolf Hitler.
Things take a rather dramatic turn when Becky discovers that the family’s patriarch, Wilhelm Reuss, has considerably bigger ambitions than running a quirky historical tourist attraction. Played by Neil Patrick Harris, Wilhelm is apparently plotting to bring about the Fourth Reich, swanky uniforms and all. Which, naturally, means that Becky is going to have something to say about it.
The first teaser, “She’s Back,” gives us a glimpse of Becky preparing for action, complete with her trademark attitude and a rather brilliantly appropriate jacket. The second, “Introducing Wilhelm,” switches attention to Harris’ villainous character as he prepares for his own mysterious mission.
Together, the teasers are clearly designed to introduce the two opposing sides of the movie without giving too much away… and that’s probably a good thing.
The third movie is directed by Jenn Wexler, with Wexler and Matt Angel credited as writers and Angel and Suzanne Coote credited for the story. Joining Wilson and Harris are Kate Siegel, Brandon Flynn, Catherine Walker, James Urbaniak and Allan Gildea.
The premise alone suggests that Wexler isn’t exactly planning to take the franchise in a restrained direction. Becky is infiltrating a Nazi conspiracy at one of Hitler’s most infamous locations, and the man behind it wants to resurrect the Fourth Reich.
We’re expecting subtlety to be very much optional. While the first two teasers concentrate on Becky and Wilhelm, we’re particularly looking forward to discovering exactly where Allan fits into this increasingly strange picture.
Bring on Becky 3! And Allan … don’t get killed! If this does well there might be a Becky 4!
