News Bites! No Tears Noomi, Re-Amimated Re-Animator and Young Frankenstein Prequel

Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Halloween) is officially attached to star in a chilling new adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s classic horror story, Herbert West: Re-Animator. Written by the acclaimed screenwriting duo Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe, the minds behind The Haunting in Connecticut, this fresh take on the iconic 1922 mad-scientist tale promises a gritty, grounded approach to Lovecraftian terror. Moving away from the camp of Stuart Gordon’s beloved 1985 cult-classic film Re-Animator, this upcoming horror movie will explore the dark, rabid obsession of a brilliant physician pushing the boundaries of life extension to horrifying extremes.

Production on the Herbert West: Re-Animator movie is slated to begin this June in Alton, Illinois, serving as a major hub for both filming and the story’s setting. Headed by the newly formed Woodlake Entertainment, founded by veteran makeup artist Jeff Lewis (Star Trek) and Roger Lewis, the indie horror project is heavily leaning into local authenticity, utilising real Alton business names and casting local residents as background extras. With horror icon Malcolm McDowell leading the cast and a proven creative team at the helm, this adaptation is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated upcoming horror releases of the year. Stay tuned for more casting updates and trailers as production kicks off.

Very Young Frankenstein has officially received a series order from FX. Inspired by Young Frankenstein, the beloved horror-comedy classic from Mel Brooks, the new series comes from the creative team behind What We Do in the Shadows, Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi, and Garrett Basch. Given how brilliantly What We Do in the Shadows blended supernatural comedy with sharp writing and absurd humor, the project already feels like a natural fit for fans of gothic parody and offbeat genre comedy. The cast includes Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, Nikki Crawford, Kumail Nanjiani, and Cary Elwes, giving the series a strong mix of eccentric comedic talent. While details about the story remain under wraps, revisiting such a beloved comedy classic is always a risky move, especially considering how iconic the original film remains. Still, with FX backing the project and such an experienced creative team involved, Very Young Frankenstein is already shaping up to be one of the most intriguing horror-comedy series currently in development.
