Another Night of the Living Dead Remake?

Because what the world clearly needs right now is a low-budget, bargain-bin remake of one of the greatest horror films ever made… here comes another take on Night of the Living Dead. This time, it’s courtesy of ITN Distribution and director Christopher Ray, and if the early footage is anything to go by, expectations should be set extremely low.

Based on Night of the Living Dead, the film appears to strip away everything that made the original so effective. Instead, we’re getting flat, lifeless visuals, questionable performances, and special effects that look several decades behind the curve. The trailer showcases blurry, out-of-focus cinematography, weak CGI gunfire, unconvincing blood effects, and makeup that barely passes muster. The action sequences fare no better, lacking tension, weight, or any real sense of danger. Not to mention someone’s back garden, complete with outside toilet in place of the opening cemetery.

If there’s one element the marketing is keen to highlight, it’s the posthumous appearance of Robert Carradine, and it’s easy to see why. It may well be the only notable draw in an otherwise uninspired production.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Romero’s classic has been revisited. But that’s what makes this new version such a head-scratcher. We already have the excellent Night of the Living Dead, directed by Tom Savini, which remains a standout reinterpretation. So why revisit it again, especially with what looks like such limited ambition and resources?

This latest iteration stars Vivica A. Fox, alongside Brittany Underwood, Miko Hughes, Zack Ward, Rob Van Dam, and Adam Huss.

The plot will be familiar to anyone who’s seen a zombie film in the last 50 years: during a global outbreak where the dead rise and roam the Earth, a small group of survivors barricade themselves in and fight to stay alive as civilisation collapses around them.

At this stage, there’s no confirmed release date from ITN Distribution, but it’s hard to imagine this one making much of an impact when it finally arrives. If anything, it feels destined to quietly drop onto streaming platforms and disappear without a trace, leaving audiences groaning louder than the zombies on screen.

Stay tuned for more updates… if there are any worth sharing.
