News Bites! Creepy Fishing, Big Ass Spiders and Chucky

The Good Guy doll is sharpening his knife for another big-screen return, and according to legendary voice actor Brad Dourif, fans should expect the unexpected. Speaking at a recent convention, Dourif revealed that franchise creator Don Mancini is developing a brand-new Chucky film that won’t continue directly from the TV series. Instead, the project is set to take the long-running horror icon in a completely fresh direction. Dourif admitted he’s heard several different story ideas already, but believes Mancini will ultimately deliver something that nobody sees coming.

Even better news for longtime fans is that Mancini has previously said he wants to make Chucky scary again, moving away from the more comedic tone of recent entries and returning to the darker style of the original Child’s Play films and Curse of Chucky. While the movie is still in the early stages of development, one thing appears certain, Brad Dourif has no intention of giving up the role, recently telling fans, “Nobody’s doing Chucky but me.” If all goes to plan, the killer doll’s next outing could be one of the franchise’s boldest and most terrifying yet.

Netflix has unveiled the first look at its upcoming supernatural horror series Below, a six-part thriller starring Josh Hartnett as a weathered fisherman battling a terrifying creature stalking the waters off a remote Newfoundland community. When a series of mysterious attacks threaten his family and neighbours, he joins forces with a marine researcher, played by Mackenzie Davis, to uncover the truth behind the monstrous presence lurking beneath the waves, and the dark secrets buried in the island’s past. Charlie Heaton also stars alongside a strong supporting cast.

Created by Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy), Below draws inspiration from the suspense and creature-feature storytelling of Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter. McKeown says the harsh realities of life on Newfoundland’s rugged coastline, hardy families, killer storms and maritime disasters, provided the perfect backdrop for a horror story rooted in local folklore and survival. Below premieres exclusively on Netflix on 8 October 2026, and could be one of this year’s most intriguing new horror series.

If giant spiders are your worst nightmare, Don’t Move looks set to deliver plenty of nightmare fuel. Based on the horror novel by Impractical Jokers star James S. Murray and Darren Wearmouth, the film follows recent widow Megan Forrester (Lyndsy Fonseca) as she joins a church camping trip that takes a terrifying turn. After missing their intended destination, the group becomes stranded deep in the West Virginian wilderness, where they’re hunted by a colossal prehistoric spider.

Directed by Maclain Nelson, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Murray and Wearmouth, Don’t Move also stars Tom Cavanagh, Rob Riggle, Hunter King, Joseph Lee Anderson, and Russ Vitale. The newly released trailer, that I wasn’t swept away by, promises a mix of creature-feature thrills, survival horror and plenty of eight-legged terror. Don’t Move crawls into cinemas on 11 September.
