Blade Runner 2099 Teaser Trailer Unveils a Stunning New Future for the Iconic Sci-Fi Franchise

After years of anticipation, Prime Video has finally unveiled the first teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2099, giving fans their first glimpse of the long-awaited live-action television continuation of one of science fiction’s most influential franchises. The footage debuted during Amazon’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, and if first impressions count for anything, this could be one of the biggest sci-fi events of 2026.

Set 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049 (like my maths?), the new limited series takes the franchise into uncharted territory. Los Angeles has been rebuilt, but no longer by humanity. Replicants now occupy the dominant position in society, while humans struggle to find their place in a dramatically altered world. The series follows Cora (Hunter Schafer), a fugitive who assumes one final identity as a Blade Runner in a desperate bid to secure a future for herself and her brother. Along the way she is forced to team up with Olwen (Michelle Yeoh), an ageing Replicant nearing the end of her lifespan. Together they pursue a mysterious runaway whose secret has the potential to tear society apart.

The impressive ensemble cast also features Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi. The series was created by Silka Luisa, while legendary Blade Runner director Ridley Scott returns as an executive producer. Episodes are directed by Jonathan van Tulleken (Shōgun, The Changeling), and the writing team draws inspiration not only from the two previous films but also Philip K. Dick’s seminal 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Like Blade Runner 2049, the production made extensive use of practical European locations, filming primarily in Prague alongside work in Barcelona.

The teaser itself is exactly what many fans were hoping for. Rain-soaked cityscapes, towering neon skylines, flying vehicles, philosophical dialogue and breathtaking cinematography all evoke the unmistakable Blade Runner atmosphere. Rather than simply copying the visuals of Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic or Denis Villeneuve’s sequel, the footage appears to expand the universe while maintaining its melancholic, cyberpunk identity.

Blade Runner 2099 premieres exclusively on Prime Video on 25 November 2026, with all eight episodes releasing simultaneously.
