Holt McCallany Returns to the Hunt in Dark Serial Killer Thriller Hyde

Fans of gritty crime thrillers have a new title to keep firmly on their radar. After earning widespread acclaim as FBI agent Bill Tench in the excellent Netflix series Mindhunter, Holt McCallany is once again stepping into the world of serial killers with the upcoming psychological thriller Hyde. The film is currently in production in Bucharest, Romania, with directing duo Graham Phillips and Parker Phillips, best known for Rumble Through the Dark, calling the shots behind the camera.

McCallany will lead the film as Detective Grimes, a troubled investigator who plunges deep into the decaying underworld of a crumbling metropolis while tracking a brutal serial killer. The premise promises a blend of noir atmosphere and psychological horror, with Grimes’ own fractured mental state seemingly becoming just as dangerous as the monster he is pursuing.

Joining McCallany is an impressive supporting cast that includes Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), who plays Detective Doran, an officer assigned to keep an eye on the increasingly unstable Grimes. Bruce Greenwood stars as Henry Monroe, the therapist Grimes is required to see, while David Harewood plays Lieutenant Robert Malloy, a weary police commander trying to hold together an underfunded department while preventing his best detective from spiraling out of control.

The project has already generated intrigue among thriller fans thanks to its grim premise and title. Earlier reports suggested actor Bill Camp was attached to the lead role before McCallany joined the production, adding further mystery to the film’s evolution.

Speaking about the production, the Phillips brothers praised the cast’s collaborative approach, noting that every actor arrived with bold ideas and a willingness to take creative risks. They also highlighted Bucharest’s unique architecture and atmosphere, describing the Romanian capital as the perfect backdrop for their twisted and unsettling story.

With its noir-inspired setting, psychologically damaged protagonist, and a cast packed with genre veterans, Hyde is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing serial killer thrillers currently in development. While no release date has yet been announced, fans of Mindhunter, Se7en, and bleak detective stories will want to keep this one on their watchlist.
