The Get Out: Russell Crowe Stars in a Crime Caper Reminiscent of The Nice Guys

Russell Crowe is diving back into the world of crime, corruption, and dark comedy with The Get Out, the newly retitled thriller from director Derrick Borte. Formerly known as Bear Country, the upcoming film has just unveiled its first trailer ahead of its theatrical and VOD release on June 26, 2026, and it looks set to blend sharp crime caper thrills with offbeat humour in a way that recalls modern neo-noir favourites like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys.

Crowe stars as Manco Kapak, an Albanian immigrant and nightclub owner who has spent years laundering money for a dangerous cartel. Ready to leave his criminal past behind and retire with his girlfriend, Manco’s plans quickly unravel when a pair of masked robbers, played by Nina Dobrev and Aaron Paul, target his business. As cartel pressure mounts and a mysterious buyer emerges with an interest in purchasing the club, Manco finds himself trapped in an increasingly chaotic web of deception, violence, and double-crosses.

The newly released trailer suggests The Get Out is aiming for a unique blend of crime thriller, dark comedy, and eccentric character drama. While the plot is packed with familiar genre ingredients, cartels, corrupt deals, armed robberies, and deadly betrayals! The film appears to lean into a quirky, self-aware tone. The combination of oddball characters, snappy dialogue, and escalating criminal misadventures feels welcomely familiar following Crowe’s recent The Nice Guys.

Alongside Crowe, the film boasts an impressive supporting cast including Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, Nina Dobrev, and Aaron Paul. Directed by Derrick Borte, best known for Unhinged and American Dreamer, from a screenplay by Borte and Daniel Forte. The film is adapted from Thomas Perry’s novel Strip and is produced by Nickel City Pictures, A High Standard, G2 Dispatch, and Life & Soul Pictures.Crowe himself previously described the project as featuring “mystery, mayhem, murder… and meditation.” With its ensemble cast, neo-noir sensibilities, and promise of crime-fuelled chaos, The Get Out could be one to watch for fans of stylish, character-driven thrillers. The film arrives in (select US) theaters and on VOD beginning June 26, 2026.
