Following the topic of Event Horizon’s lost footage, another film that boggles the mind is William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist III. This film did not start out as Exorcist III, Blatty was making a movie of his book Legion and completed it, however, the Execs at the studio were confused how the writer of the original Exorcist was making a movie without an Exorcism and ordered an Exorcism to be added to the film so it could become a marketable third part. Blatty did this.
Legion was cut up, redone, Exorcist III was born and to be honest, despite the Frankenstein approach, is a pretty amazing thriller.
Now, one of December’s new Blu-Ray releases from Arrow Video will be a special edition of The Exorcist III. This should be roughly the same as the US Collectors Edtion release earlier this year, however, the press release has a 1080p director’s cut of Legion listed for the second disc.
