SyFy’s Day of the Dead TV show gets trailer

DAY OF THE DEAD follows a group of strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. This ode to George A. Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart.

It pains me to share this but here is an example of a tribute gone wrong. 1985’s Day of the Dead was perhaps the less sharp satire that Dawn of the Dead was; however, it was the movie that defined the genre going forward. The look and feel of Day was instrumental to every subsequent zombie movie/book/text.

From the short snippet we get SyFy’s tribute series looks to discard everything that Day of the Dead was, instead dragging it’s memory into the toilet. An action comedy made by people who don’t quite get what Day of the Dead was, have plasted it’s name on the series and filled it full of horrible quips, punch in the face satire and even a mention of Deadpool.

Additionally, the series looks quite cheap. I guess that works in the Romero’s wheelhouse, but his ingenuity to get maximum impact from a low budget doesn’t mean the people behind this will. Especially when you consider that they do not have a grasp of the original vision.

The trailer has Romero’s name plastered all over it and seems about as relevant to the source material as those other Day of the Dead remakes and sequels people ignored.

I will give this a try and hope that the trailer contains all the worst bits of the show. Or perhaps the trailer is a very well done high level of satire and the show in no way resembles the promotional material.
